Can Love Help Us Sustain Good Health?

A recent article in Slate titled "10 Reasons We Love Love," discusses the new book “Love Sense: The Revolutionary New Science of Romantic Relationships" by Dr. Sue Johnson. The book looks at a series of studies that reveal the "beneficial effects of love." These benefits include protection against addiction and being better able to cope with painful emotions. They also include the ability to "protect your immune system," with some psychologists going so far as to "declare that a loving relationship is more valuable than diet or exercise in sustaining good health." I am interested to hear what you think about these studies. I'm also interested in what you think the beneficial effects of love are and I hope you will share your thoughts in the Comments section below.
